Master of Teaching (Primary)

Program Overview

The Master of Teaching (Primary) is a pre-service teaching qualification designed to prepare professionally competent graduates for the teaching profession in accordance with AQF Level 9 and the National Professional Standards for Teachers.

This course focuses on Primary teaching (Reception to Year 7) and enables pre-service teachers to understand and appreciate the unique needs (social, spiritual, emotional and cognitive learning) of the various age ranges of primary students. In Theory and Professional Experience subjects, students develop a range of knowledge and skills in primary curriculum learning areas, appropriate teaching strategies, student well-being and behaviour management. Focus is also given to establishing a solid understanding of teaching literacy and numeracy within a primary school setting.

Graduates will be able to demonstrate a high level of professional knowledge, professional relationships and professional practice and be able to teach effectively in a wide range of primary school settings.

Course Duration: 2 years full time or equivalent part time.
Location: On campus: Adelaide
Intake: February and July (Adelaide campus only)
Entry Requirements:

  • A minimum Grade Point Average of 5.0
  • Relevant curriculum learning areas in the undergraduate degree for acceptance into the Master of Teaching (Primary)

Please Note - Important Information Applicants are advised that a successful DCSI Child-Related Employment Screening is required for all students prior to undertaking any Professional Experience Students must also undertake mandatory training in Responding to Abuse and Neglect Education and Care.
