Program Overview

This course provides students with an advanced understanding of the nature, theory, and practice of international health and development. The heart of the Graduate Diploma is an online Foundational subject commencing in November, followed by a two week intensive that takes place in January each year, and which brings together health professionals from around Australia and the world. Students also have the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills related to intercultural life and work and community development, and to take part in a supervised practicum. The course aims to develop graduates who are capable of delivering health care and leading small-scale health and development programs in under-resourced and more disadvantaged areas.

Graduates may find employment with local and international NGOs (who may or may not be faith-based); international health and development organisations (e.g. WHO, UNICEF, UNDP); and government agencies involved with health and development (e.g. AusAID). The Graduate Diploma also provides an ideal basis for further post graduate study in the fields of international health and / or development which, coupled with appropriate experience, may allow graduates to pursue leadership roles with NGOs or provide independent (self-employed) consultancy services in international health and development.
Why not enrol for audit or non-award study! As an audit student, you pay a reduced fee and simply sit in on the lectures and soak up the wonderful teaching on offer. You are not required to submit any work for assessment. Audit studies are not transferable or upgrade able into degree studies.

As a non-award student, you will pay the full tuition fee for the subject and will participate fully in the class including all assessment tasks. Should you decided later that you would like to continue on into a degree program, you will receive credit for the work you have done.
