Graduates of the course build a portfolio of creative work as a basis for pursuing a range of professional writing and communication ventures as well as further study.

About This Course

The Graduate Certificate of Creative Writing and Communication (GCCWC) is designed to equip new and developing writers with the knowledge and skills needed to discern and pursue their creative call across a range of communication professions. Specifically intended for those with no prior qualification in the field, the GCCWC offers the flexibility to study a range of specific writing forms and genres. The course also includes an emphasis on creative theory and practice in light of the College’s underpinning Christian worldview.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the Graduate Certificate in Creative Writing & Communication, graduates will have a proven ability to: 

  • Evaluate the nature of creative communication and their own creative goals in light of a range of theoretical (historical, cultural and theological) perspectives 
  •  Employ critical reading, research, and technical communication skills to enhance their creative practice and communicate complex ideas to a variety of audiences  
  • Evaluate the cultural and aesthetic value of classic and contemporary literature, as well as new media texts, in order to enhance and explain their own creative work.
  • Work collaboratively and individually to generate and evaluate a range of creative communication projects utilising advanced oral and written communication skills 
  • Analyse trends in publishing and communication markets in order to strategically promote themselves and their work

With a strong focus on the practicalities of editing and publishing in the 21st century, the course enables graduates to better understand their creative call and so engage effectively with contemporary society in their personal approach to storytelling.

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS

Entry requirements for the GCCWC will include completion of an undergraduate AQF level 7 qualification (e.g. Bachelor of Arts). Demonstrated significant and relevant professional experience may also form the basis of a student’s admission to the award – please contact Head of Program for more information.
