Community Practice - How does faith fit?

3-Day Seminar: September 2017

Tabor staff in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences are often asked how faith should inform and assist sensitive practice in the community services sector.

In a desire to be a resource to the Christian church, Tabor is investigating this topic through a flexible three-day seminar in September.

Leading the Seminar will be one of the world's leading Christian sociologists, Dr Andrew Orton, who specialises in studies of the integration and intersection of faith and human/community services work.

Dr Orton is based at Durham University (UK) and is the Program Director for both Masters in Community and Youth Work, and Managing Community and Youth Work Practice.

His specialised intensive seminar is designed for anyone engaged in human services. The seminar-content has been developed to empower you with a broader and deeper understanding of how to serve the whole person through your work and ministry.

Orton has authored and co-authored several publications, including:

  • 'Sustaining Community Practice for the Future', Managing Community Practice: Principles, Policies and Programmes
  • 'Interfaith Dialogue: Seven Key Questions for Theory, Policy and Practice', Religion, State and Society
  • 'Building Migrants' Belonging through Positive Interactions: A Guide for Policymakers and Practitioners', Council for Europe

Tabor staff are excited about the opportunity to engage with these themes and questions, alongside Dr Orton's unique insights. We hope you'll join us for what is sure to be an informative and empowering expierence for all who attend.
