Hi I’m Elliot, I am Lead Pastor at Richmond Baptist Church and Leadership Development Facilitator at Baptist Churches of SA. I was studying at Tabor while already working full-time in my local church. I was new to ministry and stepped into a church that was in need of revitalisation. The team at Tabor helped to shape a flexible and meaningful pathway for study as I learnt how to follow Jesus as our family grew and as our church went through significant change and growth. The classes at Tabor encouraged interaction with other students, the lecturers, and our culture as we unpacked the Bible together and explored the ideas of a broad range of thought leaders from all across the church and its history.
Tabor’s ministry award included useful practical subjects that helped me to think through the implications of theology and ministry theories in my local church context. Tabor was a part of developing the way I think through the beautiful mess of life and ministry. My time at Tabor gave me the opportunity to wrestle with new ideas and new ways to think about old ideas. I’m still learning how to live, lead and love well as our family and church continue to grow, and looking back I am thankful for the season of formation I had at Tabor. All of the readings, the conversations, the writing, the listening were part of laying a foundation for what I hope is a lifetime of serving our King. They have informed my practice, challenged my thinking, and inspired my heart as I look forward to what the future might hold.
