About the Event

Do you know a young person who loves reading? Now you can get them writing! Join us for a one-day, fun-packed event at Tabor: Kids and Parents Write Together!

Tabor’s world-class creative writing team, along with renowned children’s authors Rosanne Hawke and Penny Reeve, invite you to a special day of creative writing for kids and parents.

Led by experienced creative writing staff, you’ll learn how to craft a story that’s fun, scary, thrilling, fantastic, silly, or whatever kind you desire! Our professional writers will guide you as you journey together to create an original and memorable story. It’s like pottery-making, but with words as your clay!

What You’ll Learn

  • Play with words to generate ideas and spark creativity.
  • Create interesting characters (both lovable and not-so-lovable).
  • Edit and revise to craft a plot that rocks!

What to Bring

  • Attendees are encouraged to bring their laptops and writing materials such as notepads and pens.

Meet Your Extraordinary Mentors!

Rosanne Hawke

Rosanne Hawke is an award-winning South Australian writer who has authored over 35 books for children and YA. She has been a teacher, aid-worker, and lecturer in Children’s Writing at Tabor College. She holds PhD from Adelaide University in creative writing and Cornish-Australian children’s literature. Her books explore cultural and social issues, history, history, family and faith. Penny Reeve

Penny Reeve (also writing as Penny Jaye and Ella Shine) is an award-winning, Australian author of more than 20 books for children. She writes picture books, junior fiction, children’s Bible studies and young adult fiction. She has a Master of Arts in writing and literature and is an experienced writing workshop leader, conference presenter and writing coach with a particular interest in equipping Christian children’s writers. James Cooper

Years ago, J.A. Cooper travelled the world over and once spent three months tending sled dogs in Alaska. His work as a teacher took him from southern England to the remote Australian outback, and he completed a PhD while living in a tin shed on 40 acres. Nowadays, his adventures mostly take place on the page and in the classroom! He is Head of Creative Writing and Communication at Adelaide’s Tabor College where he has taught for over 15 years. 

Pete Court

Pete Court is a writer and media expert with a vast range of experience, including: TV writer and presenter, radio producer, breakfast radio host, award winning short story writer, advertising director, Writer in Residence for Marion City Council, and lecturer in Creative Writing and Communication at Tabor College, Adelaide. His published novels include Sub-Urban Tales, and The Used Men’s Bicycle Club and Other Stories from the End of the World.
